GALAROZA
BioRuta "The Sound of Water"
Walk to the rhythm of the water that links landscape, life and culture

Along this trail, we will venture into a landscape shaped by water, where riverbanks, orchards and riparian forests intertwine to form one of the richest and most vibrant environments in the Aracena Mountains. We will discover how the interaction between water, soil and human activity has shaped this region over time, giving rise to a landscape where nature and culture evolve inseparably.
On the BioRuta The Murmur of Water, we’ll walk along the course of the River Múrtigas, the backbone of the landscape and of life in the area. Along the route, we will make a number of interpretative stops that will help us understand how this resource has sustained biodiversity, community development and traditional land uses, as well as its role in shaping the landscape we see today.

BIOLOGY
During the walk, we will observe a riverside ecosystem in which the constant presence of water shapes life. We will identify plant species adapted to these damp environments, as well as edible and medicinal plants that form part of traditional knowledge, introducing concepts from ethnobotany that link nature and culture.
The landscape also reveals the human footprint through the remains of ancient irrigation channels, irrigation systems and flour mills, which show how water has historically been harnessed as a source of energy and sustenance. In terms of wildlife, we can spot butterflies and traces of small mammals, particularly mustelids, whilst birdsong accompanies us along the route, becoming a key element in understanding the ecosystem.
Together, we will explore how the interaction between water, soil and vegetation gives rise to a living, ever-changing system, in which each element plays a role and in which humankind has been part of that balance over time.
