NAVAHERMOSA (GALAROZA)
BioTrail "Barranco Dundún"
A landscape where water and vegetation create an extraordinary diversity of life

From the hamlet of Navahermosa we set off on a circular interpretive route into one of the most distinctive spots in the area: the Barranco Dundún, accompanied by the stream that shapes the landscape and supports a great diversity of life.
Along the way we will explore the flora of the Mediterranean woodland, the old cultivated plots and the riverside woodland, learning to read the land through its species, the presence of water and the relationship between nature and human activity.
BIOLOGY
One landscape, many forms of life
Plants tell us about the place where they live. In the Barranco Dundún we will discover how soil, moisture, aspect and water shape the vegetation and create different plant communities.
We will find holm oaks, cork oaks and Portuguese oaks alongside a gallery forest of willows, poplars, alders and ash trees, forming distinct habitats along the ravine. We will see how the vegetation changes as we approach the water and how this diversity of habitats supports many forms of life.
But this landscape also holds the traces of those who have lived in and worked it. Traditional vegetable gardens, fruit trees and the remains of old irrigation channels speak of a close relationship with water and of how people have used and shaped their surroundings over time.
We will learn to recognise some of the most characteristic species and, at the same time, to understand their adaptations, relationships and roles within the ecosystem.
Because biodiversity goes far beyond the species we can identify. Plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms form a complex web of relationships, while human activity has also helped to shape the landscape we walk through today.
